WiMAX (World Wide Interoperability for Microwave Access) is a new technology of Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) developed by Independence World IT Forum, such as UNIX operating system.

WiMAX operates on frequency spectrums of 3.3, 3.5, 2.3, and 2.5 GHz, standardized by International Telecommunication Union (ITU). In Indonesia, frequency of WiMAX works at 2.3 GHz spectrum.

The primary advantage, WiMAX gives high throughput speed up to 100 Mbps, using input at minimum speed of 10 Mbps per channel. This means, one BTS with 3 channels has the capacity of 30 MHz bandwidth, plus 5 MHz for guard band. Moreover, WiMax works on OFDM technology and IP based which provide larger coverage, and can save bandwidth through Time Dimension Duplex (TDD), where uplink and downlink can be done simultaneously.

WiMAX gives such great benefits. It offers a reliable, high-speed throughput Broadband Wireless Access, a low cost technology with up to 50% less compared to 3G technology, yet better quality, and on top of that, WiMAX is a royalty free technology.
