Internet Penetration In Indonesia
The number of Internet users in Indonesia significantly increased five-fold in the past five years to over 25 million people in 2007 from the previous 8 million in 2003, however, with the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 34% makes the internet penetration in Indonesia remains relatively low at the rate of 11%. This is largely due to lack of availability of fixed telecom infrastructure and fixed line in rural and remote areas, and the low PC penetration of 3.7% resulting in prevalent use of internet cafes.
Compared to other developing countries in South East Asia, such as Malaysia (59%), Vietnam (23%), and Thailand (20%), Internet penetration in Indonesia is still relatively low. ( Source: Internet World Stats)
